  A component may be in zero or many streams, and a stream includes one and only one version of a component.  What would be a situation where you would have a component that is not in a stream?  Thanks

 A component may not be used by your project, or your portion of a project, but might still be used by other projects.  Components might also serve as temporary placeholders when doing new development (like creating a component for future capabilities).  In general, a component is pretty useless unless the code in it is being used somewhere, in which case it is associated with a stream somewhere.
