Hi -

I am getting the following error when trying to connect to RTC 3.0m6a using eclipse client 3.0:

The server to which you are attempting to connect is older than this client and is therefore incompatible. Please contact your server administrator to determine a suitable client.

I am able to connect to the RTC 3.0m6a via Web UI.

Appreciate the support.

When you say "Eclipse client 3.0", what did you mean?
The key question for RTC client/server compatibility is what version of
the RTC client (or the RTC Eclipse plug-in) you are using.

The most obvious interpretation is that you are trying to use a 3.0m7
client to talk to a 3.0m6 server.

Another interpretation is that you are connecting by mistake to a server
that is not a 3.0m6 server.

I have sometimes encountered this error message when the server itself
is having some problems, but that is unlikely to be the case if you can
connect to the server with the Web UI.

When you say "Eclipse client 3.0", what did you mean?
The key question for RTC client/server compatibility is what version of
the RTC client (or the RTC Eclipse plug-in) you are using.

The most obvious interpretation is that you are trying to use a 3.0m7
client to talk to a 3.0m6 server.

Another interpretation is that you are connecting by mistake to a server
that is not a 3.0m6 server.

is having some problems, but that is unlikely to be the case if you can
connect to the server with the Web UI.

Connecting to a 3.0 m6a server with a 3.0m6 client should be fine.

I just encountered a situation that might explain what you are seeing.
I tried logging in to one of our self-hosting servers with:
https://myhost.ibm.com:9443/rtc/
and got the same error message you reported. When I changed the final
segment to "jazz", i.e.:
https://myhost.ibm.com:9443/jazz/
I was able to log in.

For background, since in 3.0 we are making it easier to host multiple
jazz products on a single server, we now use "jazz" to refer to the jazz
foundation server, while "rtc" refers to the rtc application (and "rqm"
to the rqm application, etc.). But there are still some RTC servers
that use the old "jazz" suffix. I'm not sure how one controls that, and
this doesn't explain to me why getting that last segment wrong would
produce that error message (perhaps someone else on the forum can
provide that explanation), but I figured it was worth reporting this
experience to the forum.
